What was your inspiration for pursuing a job in STEM?
“Growing up, I always had an interest in technology, as well as crime shows and stories. I actually started college as a biochemistry major, but after conversations with students in the cybersecurity program and encouragement from Terri to take a chance on it, I made the switch. It ended up being the right path for me.”
What was your favorite part of the Accelerate Success program while attending Le Moyne College?
“My favorite part of Accelerate Success was attending events and connecting with other women in STEM. I especially enjoyed having the opportunity to tour different offices and learn about various STEM careers. Being exposed to women in different fields and seeing those professional environments firsthand made the experience both exciting and inspiring.”
How did Accelerate Success help you prepare for your career?
“Accelerate Success helped prepare me not only for my career, but also for what to expect in the professional world. Corporate life can seem intimidating from the outside, but the conversations, insight, and knowledge I gained through the program made me feel more confident entering the workforce. I learned how to advocate for myself and what I wanted in my career. The program also helped me strengthen my LinkedIn, develop professional networking skills, and learn how to navigate things like salary negotiations.”
Jesenya’s Advice
“Stay true to yourself and go at your own pace. Don’t feel like you have to figure everything out or accomplish everything at once. Never feel like you’re falling behind. We all started somewhere, and even as professionals, we’re still learning. Give yourself the space to grow.”
